With the edge of the spectacular Snowdonia National Park only a short distance away, there's lots of outdoor things to do from hikes and cycles among the mountains as well as explores of the beaches that fringe the Anglesey coastline, wildlife watching, or investigating centuries' worth of Welsh history at nearby castles, museums and mines.

For water-based adventures the Plas Menai National Outdoor Centre for windsurfing, powerboating, sea kayaking and dinghy sailing, less than 10 minutes' drive away, Jet Skiing is a popular pastime in the area, you can find all the information for North Wales jet skiing at at www.pwcgwynedd.co.uk

Why not head to the spectacular sands of Newborough beach for pleasant sandy days; or if you wish, from the main car park are lots of splendid walks through woodlands and over dunes, where you're often likely to spot wild horses and cows.

For an adventure by train, you can head for a ride on the Snowdon Mountain Railway, which takes passengers along a highly scenic five-mile trip from Llanberis to the summit of Snowdon. Also, in the local area there are several beautiful medieval castles at Caernarfon, Beaumaris and Conwy, as well as National Trust properties of Plas Newydd House and Gardens, Penrhyn Castle and Bodnant Garden.

Other day trips could include Zip World Penrhyn Quarry (15 minutes) and Adventure Parc Snowdonia (35 minutes).
